November 1, 1996

Dear Innovative Law User:

This is the first mailing of the Innovative Law Users Group for 1996-1997. This packet is being sent to you as a previous member of ILUG and the designated contact person for your library. If this mailing should be directed to someone else in your organization, please let us know by changing the name or address on the enclosed membership renewal form.

The following documents are enclosed:

ILUG OFFICERS

The current officers for ILUG are: Richard Jost, University of Washington (Chair); Georgia Briscoe, University of Colorado (Vice Chair/Chair Elect); Terry Toy, University of California, Riverside (Treasurer). Please let us know if we can provide any assistance to you with questions or issues related to ILUG.

UPCOMING MEETINGS

The 5th Annual Innovative Users Group meeting will be held from March 14-19, 1997 in Oakland, California. As usual, we will schedule a time to get together during that meeting but may try to secure a spot during lunch where we can gather on an informal and social basis. The change from our usual meeting time during the program slots is mainly due to the fact that there are now so many programs being offered, it is difficult for many of us to make all the programs which are of interest. As each IUG meeting has grown in the number of people attending and the number of programs being offered, I think it might be more productive for us to meet for lunch and reserve our business meetings for the annual meeting in association with AALL.

For more information on the Innovative User Group meeting in March, please contact John Culshaw, IUG Chair, at 303-492-0487 or culshaw@spot.colorado.edu. Information will also be posted to the III List as it becomes available.

The American Association of Law Libraries Annual Meeting will be held in Baltimore this year from July 19-July 24, 1997. We will plan on having our annual business meeting and workshop on Saturday, July 19 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm at a location still to be determined. More information on the program for the workshop and annual meeting will be sent as the final arrangements are coordinated with AALL headquarters.

REQUEST FOR NOMINATIONS

We are always looking for people to serve as officers for ILUG and would welcome input from the membership. If you know of anyone that you think would make a good officer for the group, please forward their names to me for contacting. Also, there is no need to wait for someone else to nominate you for a position--think about nominating yourself! We are happy to have any and all volunteers so this is not time to be shy.

BYLAWS

As many of you know, the group officially adopted our first set of bylaws at the business meeting held in conjunction with the IUG meeting in Providence in April, 1996. I have enclosed a copy of them for your information.

WEB SITE

Don't forget to visit the ILUG web site (http://ftplaw.wuacc/edu/ilug/index.html) maintained by Martin Wisneski and the staff at Washburn University Law Library. It contains a lot of information on the organization (current officers, past minutes, mailings etc.) plus links to related sites of interest to ILUG members. Another purpose of our web site is to allow member libraries to share documentation they have prepared with other libraries on workflow procedures and use of the III system. Instructions for contributing documentation to the web site are included for your information.

Please let me know if you have any questions on ILUG activities. I look forward to working with all of you this year and welcome your comments on how ILUG can help meet your needs.
