November 6, 1998
Dear Innovative Law Library User:
This is the first mailing of the Innovative Law Users Group (ILUG) for 1998/99. According to our records, you are the designated ILUG contact person for your library. If this mailing should be directed to someone else in your organization, please let us know by changing the name of your contact person on the enclosed membership renewal form. Please feel free to make copies of any enclosed documents to share with staff members at your library.
The following documents are enclosed:
Please note the following deadlines:
ILUG OFFICERS
The current officers for ILUG are Susan Goldner, Chair (University of Arkansas at Little Rock), Mary Jane Kelsey, Vice-Chair (Yale University), and Virginia Bryant, Treasurer (George Washington University). I urge you to consult our website for additional information about the Group. The website is maintained by Martin Wisneski (Washburn University).
Please use the enclosed form to make nominations for next year's officers. Nominate yourself, nominate someone at your institution, or nominate someone you know through professional activities. A brief description of the duties of each office are included on the form.
UPCOMING MEETINGS
This year's Innovative Users Group Meeting (IUG) is in Oakland, California, April 24-27,1999. These meetings are full of informative programs presented by both IUG members and III staff. I encourage you to attend or to send at least one representative from your library. More information is available at the IUG home page ( http://innopacusers.org ). As in the past, we will meet as a group at the ILUG Luncheon which will be on April 27, 1999. Registration for that luncheon will be mailed with the IUG registration materials. I hope to see you there!
As has become traditional, the ILUG Annual Meeting will be on Saturday, July 17, 1999, in Washington, D.C., in conjunction with AALL. It will consist of a short business meeting, discussion groups on a variety of modules and topics, a short presentation by Innovative Interfaces, and one or more training sessions/user presentations.
There is a ballot enclosed in this mailing which asks you to "vote to open both meal functions to all ILUG members and to set the charge for the meals as low as the ILUG budget allows". The ballot page includes a justification for the vote. Please take time to read it, and to vote. If you have any questions, feel free to ask any of the current officers.
SURVEY
The last item included in your packet is a membership survey. It is short. Please take the time to fill it in and return it. Our organization now has an established structure and it is time to consider new ways it can be useful to its members.
Included in the survey is a request for volunteers to serve as a mentor to a new III user. Being a mentor does not have to take a great deal of time. You do not need to be an expert in the whole system to volunteer. If we think back, we all remember how intimidating the system was to us at first. You can help ease someone else over the first few months of III use. I will match up volunteers with people new to the system. They might be in a library that has just purchased III, or they may be a new employee in a library that has had III for a long time.
Please take just a few minutes to give your opinion, to offer suggestions, and to volunteer. Also, let me know if I can provide any assistance to you with questions or issues related to ILUG.
Sincerely,
Susan D. Goldner, ILUG Chair
