Experience
Associate Director for Technical Services, Lillian Goldman Library at Yale Law School
My library career spans 26 years at Yale Law School during which I have performed all technical services functions and have assumed increased responsibility for the organization and management of technical services until I now hold the title of Associate Director. The technical services staff numbers 4 professionals and 12 clerical assistants. I also spent two years as chief of this large library's administrative services and one year as the weekend circulation librarian.
Major accomplishments: Conversion of manual acquisitions, serials control and binding functions to INNOVACQ., 1983. -- Migration from INNOVACQ to INNOPAC, 1988. -- Retrospective conversion of 200,000 titles. -- Development of technical services workstation. -- Reorganization of technical services division to perform whole book processing by acquisitions staff. -- Planned reclassification of collection to Library of Congress by 1999-- work in progress.

Statement
As law librarians begin to look at their INNOPACS as quality service tools, thus amplifying the usual OPAC inventory and index functions, ILUG will be more important than ever to the dialog and mutual assistance that are the hallmarks of the profession. Through ILUG we have two formal ways to share ideas, innovations and suggestions for improving INNOPAC products-- the workshop at AALL and the luncheon at IUG. ILUG is also an effective way to communicate with III concerning issues of importance to the law library community. I think the ILUG is large enough and mature enough now that we might consider expanding our function. I would like to see ILUG explore a mentor program for new users and the possibility of using video conferencing to provide distance learning experiences for those who can't get to programs at IUG.

Statement
Law libraries have played a significant role as "partners" in the developing, testing and implementation of the Innovative software and approved hardware. Building upon that partnership, we should address issues and concerns to improve functionality and services of the system. We can utilize the collective wisdom of the ILUG to share ideas and insights in how to implement technological advances and protect existing investments. Additionally, we need to be more involved with the educational planning at the Annual Conference to insure that our special needs be met.
